The OC celebrity works pretty good. It really depends on weather you like lotions with tingle or not i love love love HOT lotions have you used any Designer Skin products? Those are my favorites. I really think the 2nd choice is your better pick though (only because i like tingle lotions). The tingling factor helps open up your pores and bring melanin to the surface.
Ps: hemp doesn't do much for your tan it just helps keep the skin from getting too dry.

Reapplying Sunscreen

Also, be aware of where you are located because the sun's rays are stronger in higher elevations, such as when you are in the mountains. They are also stronger in lower latitudes as you get closer to the equator.

Of course, it can be difficult to keep track of time zones, latitudes, and elevations when you are on vacation. Therefore, a good rule of thumb is to take a look at your shadow. If it is shorter than you, you are at a greater risk for sunburn than if your shadow is longer than you are tall.

Self Tanning Lotion

Tan for safety reasons?

OK, I know it sounds weird, but...I'm very fair complected and I get a sunburn everytime I'm outside for more than 20 mins. A lot of times, I get kinda sick when I'm sunburned, too. When I wear sunscreen, I usually wear SPF 70 or something like that, but I wonder if a a base tan would keep me from burning quite so often? I guess I'm trying to decide if it's safer to "tan" and burn less often, or "burn" everytime and just suck it up. I know, I know...I should wear sunscreen (I even worked for the American Cancer Society at one point in time, so I know...), BUT, if I can't ALWAYS wear sunscreen, and I can't always put it on my own back, and I'm tired of burning all the time; so, what's the best thing for me to do? If I wanted to tan for cosmetic reasons, I would just use that self-tanning lotion, but that's not the case. Any advice is really appreciated.

DHA stands for dihydroxyacetone. It is a simple carbohydrate derived from natural plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane. It interacts with dead skin cells and causes the skin to turn brown. Our bodies naturally shed dead skin cells every day, so the DHA on skin usually lasts about 5-7 days.

DHA was found to be a skin coloring agent by German scientists in the 1920's. During xray procedures, it was sometimes spilled on the skin, and at that time was found to turn the skin brown! No further research was done in this area until the 1950's. At this time, DHA was being used orally to assist children with a glycogen storage disease. Of course, the children would sometimes spill or spit the DHA onto their skin, and then their skin would turn brown after a few hours. Coppertone was the first company to introduce sunless tanning lotion in the 1960's. However, the early formulation produced unattractive results, and was not on the market for long.

DHA has been listed with the FDA(Food and Drug Administration) since 1973, and has been used cosmetically for several years, specifically sunless tanning. DHA is the main active ingredient in all sunless tanning products, and it comes in several concentrations. The most common concentrations for professional use are 8%, 10%, and 12%, 8% being lighter, 12% being darker.

Lighter concentrations tend to appear more natural, but may need several coats to acquire the desired shade. The higher percentage DHA products produce a darker tan with one coat, but can look "orange" or appear streaky and uneven, especially if attempted at home instead of being applied by a professional. In the case of DHA, higher percentage is not always better. If you are a naturally very light person, it is much better to go with the lower percentage and gradually increase the DHA to provide the most natural-looking color.

DHA takes approximately 2-4 hours to begin showing up on the skin, and will often continue to darken for up to 48 hours, depending on the formula used. It will fade naturally over 5-14 days as the skin exfoliates itself. If you sweat a lot, swim, take long hot showers, etc..., it will fade faster, since the skin will be exfoliating faster.

DHA itself does not damage the skin, and is approved for sunless tanning by the FDA. It has also been recommended by the Skin Cancer Organization, American Cancer Society, and American Medical Association. If any adverse effects are noted on the skin after applying a sunless tanning product, it is primarily from the other ingredients mixed with DHA, as DHA is considered safe for external topical use by the above organizations.

Remember, however, DHA does not protect you from the sun, so you must always still use sunscreen to prevent skin damage from sun exposure.

I decided to give indoor tanning a try, about 2 weeks ago. Since then I have been using lotion my boyfriends mom lent me, but now I need to buy my own.

I would love to get tan, but my skin DOESNT tan at all. What are some good spray tans that will make me look dark but not fake or orange?

Can you use a blow dryer to set a sunless tan in faster?

It usually takes a full day or at least over night for my sunless tanning lotion to take affect. will using a hair dryer on the high setting help set the tan in because it absorbs into my skin? has anyone ever tried this?

Self Tanners - You Won't Be Able to Live Without Them Once You Start....

Have you ever known a sun worshipper, one of those people who can never seem to get a dark enough tan? They are always looking for that new tanning product that will break their newest tanning plateau and deepen their color even more. Some of them are the lucky few who's skin tans easily.

They rarely burn, and after a few hours in the sun, will emerge looking like most of us would after a long Caribbean vacation. The rest of us though, are left to envy these lucky few, as we know darn well a few hours in the sun will wreak at least a week's worth of peeling, dry, red havoc on our skin, not to mention the multitude of fine lines and wrinkles that will surely follow. We go from burn to peel - no tan to speak of in between.

That is, until the past few years have produced the latest and greatest generation of self tanning products. No longer do you have to suffer the unnatural orange color, the intensely unpleasant odor, or the unsightly fading of the old self tanners.

Today's self tanners, at least the quality ones, are formulated to give every user an even, natural tan that lasts longer, has a deep brown undertone rather than orange or red, and fades just like a real tan.

There are even several good "spray" self tanning services offered by many tanning salons for those who don't feel comfortable with self application. I've only personally tried the Mystic Tan salon service, and it does look quite good for about two days, but it fades in to what looks similar to age spots or freckles (NOT very attractive I can assure you).

It also can have quite an overpowering smell depending on how much of the active ingredient (DHA) the particular salon has the device set to. Unfortunately, the better your tan, the stronger the smell, as this is the DHA at work giving your skin the darker appearance.

The most effective, longest lasting self tanners that produce the most beautiful color are the self tanning creams that have been specifically made to blend well and dry fast. They tend to go on a lot easier, are easily blended, and result in the least amount of streaking and patchiness.

The gels, sprays and mousse do not have the same even, natural results that the sunless creams do. You definitely want to go with whatever type you feel most comfortable applying, but the cream form is highly recommended.

There are some very important steps you need to take in order to get the best tan possible. The first step prior to applying the self tanner is EXFOLIATION. I've found that if I skip this step, the tan fades a lot faster, and tends to not blend as well. By exfoliating thoroughly in the shower, you are providing the self tanning cream a clean slate for maximum adhesion and staying power.

Also, use a makeup sponge to apply the self tanner to the tops of your hands after you have washed them, as well as to your face for a more blended, natural look. Be sure to get everywhere - behind your ears, the back of your neck, etc.

Try to have the very little clothing on for as long as you can right after application, as DHA is activated by oxygen, and will work better if it has more circulation during the activation phase. Once this application has dried for a few hours, you may apply a second coat if you would like to achieve a darker color. Just don't overdo it. To maintain the tan, reapplication should occur every 3-4 days.

With these excellent products and the gorgeous results they produce, there is simply no excuse to repeatedly subject your skin to the sun's damaging rays again. With the new sunless tanners, you can be tan year round AND maintain your skin's youthful and vibrant appearance. It is truly a win/win situation.

A whole new world

Has anyone used Australian Gold's Crystal 12 tanning lotion for indoor tanning?

How do you like it? Is it worth the money? Any other products you would suggest?

It was an alright lotion. Not my favorite though. I think there are much better lotions you can purchase for the money. Email me with what brands the salon you go to carries and i can give you my recommendations. Also, when you email me let me know about your tanning history (what beds you use, how many mins, what lotions you have used, skin type, etc) and what you are looking for in a tanning lotion (do you want bronzer, tingle, cooling effects, body blush, etc) so I can give you a more accurate answer.

Your Christmas Table

If you choose your decorations carefully and creatively, they can be an investment that will last for years. Therefore, when you have eaten your last piece of fruitcake for the season, all you need to do is pack up your decorations and store them safely.

I always find that decorating my Christmas table is probably the most exciting activity at this time of year. I can spend hours shopping online, deciding on the colour scheme and the most intricate details, and have my table as simple or as highly structured as I want. You will find that the most important thing you must do is decide on a theme and colour scheme.

You will accomplish two things by doing this. Firstly, it will be easier to co-ordinate, look extremely attractive and secondly, when you shop online for all the necessary items you will find that it will be easy to find just the variety you want, particularly if you plan early in the year. I always find that by shopping online, I can visit various sites and choose what I want and then if I stumble on something more interesting I can change tack.

It’s as simple as that. Two of my favourite sites for online shopping are bcl.com.au, where you can buy Australian Christmas decorations online. Christmas table decorations and party supplies can be ordered online all year round and delivered to your door. OzFreeOnline.com is great when I want to login and browse the hundreds of classifieds, order online, and have Christmas supplies home delivered. All you do is join up and begin shopping.

If you don’t want to do anything but go with the colour scheme in your home then you will most likely have a very simple task. All you will need to do is choose the main colour in which you wish to highlight the table and then begin from there. You may find that your linen closet has everything you need, but you may want to add a contrasting colour. You can always find bells, angels, candles, snowmen, ribbons and bows, napkins, and bonbons, at your favourite online store.

A beautifully decorated table with a little creativity can really make an impact. If you have no theme in mind, why not go ‘alfresco’ and take Christmas lunch outdoors. An outdoor setting is the perfect place for bright, gay colours. Choose one colour to dominate then weave it through your setting, contrasting with splashes of opposing colours. Use brightly coloured china, napkins, and ‘Australiana’ Christmas decorations to brighten up the table even more.

Perhaps you are a traditionalist, and want to use the long-established red, green, and gold. Maybe you like white and silver. Possibly, you might want two particular colours. Say white and purple, or mauve and yellow. Could be that you want the summery colours we are used to here in Australia at Christmas, and have a beach theme and serve crayfish as your main course, with Pavlova for sweets instead of Christmas pudding.

Convincing me to have an all white Christmas in the middle of December would be a tad difficult, but I am sure there are many who would enjoy the elegance and simplicity of white. With starched white napkins, you could use tall white tapered candles, crystal bells, and tall crystal stemware. You could have beautiful glass balls especially decorated with your guests name or your personal message and used as part of the place-settings at your Christmas table. Touches of reflective metal will add extra sparkle, and use softly rounded cutlery and gleaming Christmas decorations. The final touch might be a line of gorgeous long stemmed white roses in single vases down the entire centre of the table.

HINT: Instead of buying your Christmas bells here and glass baubles there, why not allocate an hour or two to visit a Christmas shop online with everything you need in the one shop. You will save time and probably a little money too. First, I went online to visit everythingchristmas.com.au, and then shopped online with OzFreeOnline.com. I found everything I wanted to buy in their classified pages and after searching through hundreds of online ads I felt quite ‘Christmassed out’ and very happy with my purchases.

What is a good tanning bed lotion of fair skin?

I am red head with fair skin and I recently purchased several stand up sessions at a local tanning salon. Which lotion would best for my fair skin that burns easily? And about how long should I remain in the tanning bed for my first session?

Hello idiot. Seems like your one of the many morons. If you'd like to get into it scientifically, not through my ex profession lets shall we.
Your right to say cancer is caused by sun, but sun burning. Did you know without sun nothing would live? The vitamin D helps skin, teeth, nails, bones, everything. Prevents osteoporosis, Seasonal affective disorder (and other depressions hence light therapy) skin conditions like psorisas and prevents 19, yes 19 different cancers. When yuo over expose you mutate the DNA (this is when yuo burn). Almost like punching yourself, if you continuously do it you will see a bruise, a form of skin damage, hence a burn. Tanning is your bodies natural ability to protect itself from over exposure.
What about people in africa or other high climate countries? do they all have skin cancer im pretty sure tribes dont use SPF, could u explaini that? did you know a base tan is a natural spf15 for your skin? thats why people get base tans before they go away.
as for sun beds being "fake light" ur wrong, again, no surprise. It is an artifically made UV lgiht but it is UV light none the less and makes your body change as it would to normal UV lgiith. Why are tanning beds safer then outdoors? because its a moderated CONTROLLED environement where you can control the wattage (strength) and time your out in the sun. Now a days technology si so great you can use wave legnth scanners (most new beds have them) that detect the amount of pigment in yuor skin adjusting the beds intensity and time to exactly match what your skin can handle.
The bad press of beds from doctors is so they can cantiously sell prescriptions to you to make money, the sun cures so many things they would be out of business if u knew. Also make up companies would be out of business because tanning anturally clears skin, strengthens it, even tones, etc (not wrinkles ,thats form lack of moisture and thats why tanning lotions are made, the replace the moisture, see u dont know anyting)
I think your presumption of cancer comes rom those salons where they have idiots that say "i want the strongest bed forr the most time" thinking you can get a tan in a day which is terrible thats what causes damage. Its a slow, timely process to develop a tan, its a chemical reaction, so must damage is done 1) 90% of sun damage is done before the age of 18 2) idiots that dont protect their skin or nourish it properly turn into leather hand bangs.
Do you know why in England they have poor bones, teeth, skin and hair? lack of sun, it always rains. Majority of england homes are equipped with tanning units in their home. Did you know you would need to drink 4 full bags of milk to achieve the amount of Vitamin D your body needs in a day? you can get that rom 1 low wattage 5 minute tan a week. Did you know the doctors use light therapy in their office but its really the exact same bulbs as a tanning bed (both emit UV A and B in low doses unlike the sun, again your dumb)

Tanning in moderation is the healthiest thing in the world for you, without it we would never even be a live, nothing would.

Tanning lotion best for fair skin is a basic accelerator with no bronzers. It helps your body to absorb as much of the concentrated UV light as possible when your in a controlled environement like a tanning bed.
check out companies like Designer Skin, California Tan, Fiji, etc. BASIC ACCELERATORS! nothing fancy!

Make sure you shower, exfoliate and moisutrize prior to your tan. After your session it takes up to 24 hours to see results so make sure to NOT shower and moisturize twice a day to maintain your tan. If yuor fair skin do SMALL minimal sessions. It may take a few sessions to see something but at least your not burning, BURNING CAUSES DAMAGE TO YOUR SKIN. NOT tanning!!

Should sunscreen go on under or over sunless tanning lotion?

I just started using a daily facial moisturizer that has a subtle skin-darkening complex.

I'm not positive, but I would say put it on over the moisturizer, waiting until the moisturizer has been absorbed and dries.

I work in a tanning salon myself. I personally find that Dark Thrill doesn't work all that well. I get to use just about any tanning lotion I want for free so I have tried quite a few. My personal fave is Crave by Supre. It is one of the few I broke down and bought myself. I also favor Love Junkie by Designer Skin. Both lotions have bronzers in them. Crave is somewhat expensive ( we sell it for 42.99) and Love Junkie is mid range to lower cost wise ( we sell for 24.99). Austrailian Gold is a lower end (pricewise at 18.95 for a bottle) quite a few of our clients have had good luck with both Barely Legal and Cheeky Brown ( both contain bronzers). All these lotions have more of a subtle to fruity scent. I personally don't care for lotions that have a strong perfume smell. Keep in mind that the price will reflect the ingrediants as with any product. The higher the price the better the ingrediants. Also remember when using a bronzer to wipe your hands off immeadiatly (expecially between your fingers) and wash your hands after you finish tanning. If you don't do this you could end up with discoloration in between your fingers. Hopefully this is of some help.

One last thing... if your salon offers sample lotions, I recommend you try it before you buy it. Everyone's chemistry is different, so a lotion that somebody loves might not be the best fit for you.
