i'm a big fan of bare escentuals and their bareMinerals product, my brother just bought me this kit called the Wearable Eye Kit; meet the browns.

I just recently bought a few bareMinerals products, however, they did not come in an eye kit. I bought each glimmery eye shadow seperately. I purchased True Gold, Queen Phyllis, and Bare Skin and I love them all! They are easy to apply and the shimmery effect is gorgeous. It can get a tad messy and sometimes I have to wipe excess shadow from my cheeks, etc. But overall, I love this product and the bareMinerals line!

But she does have some good videos.

As for the Mary-Kay, it works well. I used it before but I moved onto powders because it is generally better. Mary Kay has some good ones, and you can ask your consultant if they have one of those tiny, travel brush kits, and it will be cheaper.

Plus, if you have ever bought their eyeshadows, you may have bought one of those cases to hold them in. Well the bigger one has a specific spot for the powder foundation. I would NOT suggest the cream to powder foundation. Any kind of compact make-up will make you break out due to the waxes keeping it together.

I know with powder foundations though, it can make your skin look dry in areas if you generally have combination/dry skin. I have combination, so I just bought a thick moisturizer for the day (which prevents the powder from making my face look dry), and light acne-fighting one at night.

Mary Kay has good stuff. But I would talk to your consultant about your specific needs. Don't worry about bogging them down with information about your skin. You need what will work best for you.

People with oily skin should wash their face at least three times a day, but bear in mind that excessive washing can stimulate your oil glands to produce more oil. Oily skin needs special cleansing with plenty of water and soap to prevent pores from getting clogged. Do not use products that are harsh on the skin, as these can strip your skin of its natural oils and leave it feeling taut and dehydrated and can hamper the flow of oil through the pores which can lead to blockages and cause problems such as acne breakouts.

When choosing a cleanser you should avoid using heavy cleansing creams and harsh soaps, as these will definitely stimulate the oil glands into action. You should use products that are oil based to cleanse your skin as they dissolve sebum effectively. You can choose soaps made of natural ingredients such as Aloe Vera based soap or a light medicated soap, if you prefer you can try using an antibacterial cleansing lotion and use it with mineral water, be sure that it is hot water as hot water dissolves skin oil much faster than lukewarm water. Avoid cleansers or lotions that contain alcohol, as they can be harsh on the skin.

If you have extremely oily skin, you should wash your face at least three or four times a day and avoid using any type of moisturizer, if you must use a moisturizer be sure that it is not an oil based moisturizer in order to maintain an oil free complexion. If your oily skin is flaky, you should try using a deep defoliant every other night, followed by a light coating of moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin you should try using a clay mask made out of white or rose colored clays.

Diet is also important in the treatment of oily skin, as with everything else, you should eat foods rich in proteins but without sugar and salt. Eat plenty of leafy green vegetables such as lettuce and cabbage and fresh fruits as apples, oranges and avocado. It is also important for you to take in vitamins and so foods rich in vitamins such as beans, nuts, and wheat germ which provided vitamins A and B. Also eat foods such as black beans and whole grain rice, which supply iron to the body to rejuvenate pale skin, Vitamin B2 is the most important vitamin for the condition of oily skin and the slightest deficiency of Vitamin B2 can result in oily skin. Drink plenty of mineral water to help keep the skin hydrated and to flush out toxins from the body.

What are your opinions on Bare Minerals makeup and WEN hair products?

Hi, I'm considering purchasing bare minerals makeup starter kit and the WEN hair care starter kit. It seems like they are both good products but I was just wondering what people that have used them think. Also, I think both products make you re-order every few months and that kind of scares me. How hard is that to cancel if say I don't need more at that time or don't like it?

I have been using bare minerals since i turned 16 (im 20 now)

AMAZING product. You really have to applicate it as directed tho. ya know, swirl, tap, and buff, repeat. If you dont use it right it doesnt really work out that well.

Also you need to use the basic mineral powder in your skin tone, then i use 'well rested' as a concealer, then 'warmth', then mineral veil. And then after all those steps you can use your normal colored eye make up and lip color.

I think all those powders come in the started kit.

I still marvel at the before and after difference it makes 4 years later. It gives such a soft finished look to your face.

Pigment Minerals Makeup

i use the benefit cheek stain with compact powder mineral foundation, it works great. I normally apply the cheek stain first, let it set for a minute or so then apply the powder. i also use a gel cheek color on top of liquid foundation; i'd apply the foundation first, let set then dab on the cheek color, set with loose powder.
for me mineral foundation is not much different from traditional foundation in terms of properties.

What mineral makeup is a good substitute for bare minerals? ?

I'm on a tight budget.. what drugstore mineral makeup is a good substitute?

I am a professional makeup artist, I do a LOT of high end clientele. I do photo shoots, weddings etc. I have used so many different brands of makeup and different mediums (liquid, cream, mineral) NEVER USE ANY mineral makeup with BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE it is actually a METAL that has been processed with tin and copper. It is a skin irritant and can cause rash, itching, and in larger doses cystic acne.

I can tell you which ones to avoid and which one I prefer and why...
No to sheer cover- orangey, powdery, cakey, I can always tell when someone is wearing it
No to Drugstore brands- they are CHEAP. They use cheap fillers, cheap ingredients and coat the minerals with lots of unfavorable chemicals that should never be in mineral makeup (maybelline, loreal, revlon etc..) they look cakey, powdery and never have that natural glow. They look very cheap on. AND THEY HAVE BISMUTH!!!!!!!

Here is my beef with BARE ESCENTUALS......
They are ALL about marketing (whatever you want to hear)
1)Saying NO PRESERVATIVES (very misleading) they DO use preservatives, in their mineral veils and other skincare lines
2)Saying Pure Minerals- they are not as I stated before they use bismuth which is actually a processsed metal and very cheap filler
3)Saying you can sleep in it- No dermatologist would ever recommend you to sleep in any makeup, especially ones with preservatives and bismuth
4)They use cheap fillers (bismuth, cornstarch)-more itchiness and irritation
5)They are overhyped, overpriced for what they are selling you
6)They wear off by mid day (reapply, reapply) and look pretty greasy if you have slightly oily skin (due to the bismuth, I cannot have this with photos as matte photos better)
OVERALL REVIEW- Stay away from BARE ESCENTUALS.

I however do love mineral makeup and I have brand loyalty. I highly recommend FAERIE ORGANIC MINERALS and this is why.........
1)They ARE natural, THEY use NO PRESERVATIVES, No cheap fillers (cornstarch etc) NO BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE
2)Their minerals STAY PUT! They last all day even in some pretty extreme heat
3) Great coverage (redness, acne, etc) light as a feather, airy, natural and yet leaves a healthy glow.
4)They use a high end expensive mineral called BORON NITRIDE (this is used in the highest end mineral brands like Jane Iredale etc)
5) Boron Nitride! It is amazing on the skin. It is known to be antibacterial (actually helps acne when your wearing it), it is skin soothing and a skin perfector and makes your makeup last all day (this is what I look for in mineral makeup)
6)They offer a FREE sample kit so you can try several colors at once (you just pay shipping-like $5.99)
7)Their fair is very Fair and works on the lightest of complexion it blends right into the skin
8)They do NOT use MICRO PARTICLES (you need to look for this as these are very dangerous to your health if inhaled and many companies use them)
9) They do no coat their products (this can also be bad for your skin and dangerous to your health watch for silicone treated or dimethicone etc- very undesirable, especially with acne)
10)They are NEVER cakey, powdery or dull like store brands which are so cheap

Discovered in the late 70's, mineral makeup has only recently started gaining popularity in the cosmetics world. One of the most famous claims regarding mineral makeup is that it is actually good for your skin. Is there any truth to this claim? Read on and find out.

First of all - what is mineral makeup? Mineral makeup is made from naturally-occuring crushed minerals, usually zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, iron oxides and mica. These loose minerals are combined together in different quantities to make a variety of mineral makeup powder formulations such as foundations, finishing powders, concealers, blushers, bronzers and eye shadows. The minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in particular, act as a natural sunblock, effectively filtering UVA and UVB rays to deliver sun protection of up to SPF 20.

Mineral makeup is free of irritants like perfumes, preservatives (such as parabens), alcohols and dyes. Many traditional makeup brands use synthetic FD&C dyes in their products - however, these dyes have been identified as the one of the leading causes of allergic reactions in makeup. Most mineral makeup lines do not use synthetic dyes, instead, the colors are derived from naturally-occuring iron oxide pigments. All this makes mineral makeup very suitable for people with sensitive skin. In fact, mineral makeup has even been used after surgical procedures like laser peels, when skin is at its most sensitive.

However, not all mineral makeup lines are completely free of chemical irritants. Some brands use the bismuth oxychloride, which can be very irritating on the skin. Bismuth oxychloride is a mineral that is used in some major mineral makeup lines because it imparts a shimmery look to their makeup, and is a cheap filler. Bismuth oxychloride is also heavy, hence the need to 'buff' or force it into your skin. Mineral makeup lines that do not use bismuth oxychloride tend to be lighter in texture and easier to apply.

Mineral makeup can also be good for acne sufferers. By its very nature, mineral cosmetics are non-comedogenic, oil-free, anti-inflammatory and cannot harbor bacteria, which means that acne blemishes can be covered or concealed without further aggravating them. Mineral makeup will not necessarily cure acne, but skin has a much better chance of healing while wearing it, compared to traditional makeup. Many have also reported that they have fallen asleep wearing their mineral makeup without suffering any breakouts the following day. In fact, some mineral makeup lines even have mineral night-time treatments, which are specially-formulated mineral powders that you can wear every night to improve your skin. Crucially, mineral makeup avoids the use of talc, a known carcinogen found in a lot of traditional makeup.
