Tanning salon protocols, first time, what is the towel for?

They handed me this little rolled up towel, said here's your bed, here's your towel, see you in a few minutes. So what is the towel for? They had a headrest already, I had the eyewear. And now that I've been already, I don't want to ask them. Please help!!
